Ave Alabama was printed in the Spring of 2004, inspired by a trip to the Ave Maria Grotto in Cullman, Alabama- a small and quirky sculpture garden built by a Benedictine monk over the course of his life. The book features an original poem by the printer, as well as three linoleum block illustrations to complement the text. The text was hand-set in Bembo and printed on Nideggan mould-made paper. The wrap around cover paper is handmade cotton in a lovely shade of variegated purple, pulled at the Lost Arch papermill in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and bound with a pamphlet stitch. edition of 35 |
